Offshore Marine Contractors were invited by EMAS Chiyoda Subsea (ECS) to provide a Mooring Master for positioning and connecting the Tender Assisted Drilling Rig SKD Esperanza to a pre-laid mooring system adjacent to the Tension Leg Platform (TLP) in the Malikai Field, offshore Malaysia. The Malikai TLP is located 60 nautical miles offshore of Malaysia in the South China Sea in 500m water depth and is to be managed by Shell.
OMC were invited to assist ECS in the planning / co-ordination and execution of connecting / positioning of the SKD Esperanza to the pre-laid mooring system. Under command of the Mooring Master the SKD Esperanza was moved to a position clear of the TLP where the pre-installed suction pile anchor lines were connected to the Esperanza’s winches. After tensioning of the anchor lines the Esperanza was brought safely to its final position next to the TLP to start drilling operations.
Vessels involved were the 160t BP Lewek Plover for the mooring line connections and the 160t BP Lewek Pelican and the 150t BP Posh Persistence for the positioning of the SKD Esperanza.
The inter-connection between SKD Esperanza and the TLP using Holdback Mooring Lines was successfully completed through excellent co-operation between EMAS Chiyoda Subsea and OMC.
